Our
Story
ALMAR is an independent coastal travel magazine devoted to islands, shorelines, and the places where land meets water.
Part magazine, part guide, ALMAR publishes destination stories, food writing, cultural reporting, essays, and dispatches shaped by a deep sense of place. We are drawn to the immersive pleasures of travel: the spirited small hotel, the meal that reflects a landscape, the local ritual, the artist’s studio, the weather, the silhouette of a town at dusk. We believe the best travel writing does more than recommend where to go. It changes the way you see the world.

Our editorial focus is still global, but we only cover coastal cities, island life, beach towns, maritime cultures, and the people, flavors, and ideas that give them character. Alongside guides and inspiration, ALMAR makes room for slower journalism, personal essays, and stories that might not belong anywhere else.

We care about atmosphere, but also context. We care about history, labor, design, foodways, local style, and the emotional force of a seaside place.
