About Us

Our
Story
ALMAR is an independent coastal travel magazine devoted to islands, shorelines, and the places where land meets water.
Part magazine, part guide, ALMAR publishes destination stories, food writing, cultural reporting, essays, and dispatches shaped by a deep sense of place. We are drawn to the immersive pleasures of travel: the small hotel with soul, the meal that reveals a landscape, the local ritual, the artist’s studio, the weather, the texture of a town at dusk. We believe the best travel writing does more than recommend where to go. It changes the way you see.

Our editorial focus is global but salt-edged. We cover coastal cities, island life, beach towns, maritime cultures, and the people, flavors, and ideas that give them character. Alongside guides and inspiration, ALMAR makes room for slower journalism, personal essays, and stories that might not belong anywhere else.

Created by a small editorial team, ALMAR is a space for thoughtful, sensory, and deeply felt travel. We value beauty, but not the empty kind. We care about atmosphere, yes, but also context. We care about history, labor, design, foodways, local style, and the emotional force of place.
