Submission Guidelines
Writing that feels rooted in local texture and the emotional force of a place.
We publish stories with a strong sense of place, atmosphere, and perspective. We are drawn to work that is immersive, specific, and well-observed.

We are only open to unsolicited submissions for Dispatches and Personal Essays. All features, guides, itineraries, interviews, and other editorial packages are solicited directly by our editors.
Dispatches
Short, vivid pieces rooted in place. These can be travel notes, observations, cultural snapshots, or sharply framed stories from coastal cities, islands, and places shaped by the sea. We’re looking for strong voice, specificity, and a clear sense of atmosphere rather than generic travel writing or list-based recommendations.
Length: 400–600 words
Personal Essays
First-person stories in which place matters. These should go beyond a travel diary and offer reflection, emotional depth, or a strong point of view. We’re especially interested in essays where coastal or island settings shape the experience in meaningful ways.
Length: 600–800 words
We want writing that feels rooted in local texture: food, design, ritual, landscape, history, memory, weather, and the emotional force of being somewhere.
